A-Line vs. Ball Gown Wedding Dress: Which Is Better For You?

April 19, 2022

There is a perfect wedding dress for every bride. Wedding dresses come in various silhouettes and styles, and every bride has a vision of her dream wedding dress and how gorgeous she will look on the day of her wedding.

Finding the perfect wedding dress for every body type can sometimes be confusing with many styles and silhouettes available. No matter your body type, a dream wedding dress is just waiting for you!

Now that you have looked at online bridal shops and maybe even booked an appointment at a bridal boutique near you, you have narrowed it down to two popular wedding dress styles: the A-line style and Ball Gown wedding dresses. Both types are beautiful and romantic, and we are here to help you understand their differences to help you choose which kind of wedding dress would be best for you to wear on your wedding day.

Features Of A-Line Wedding Dress

An A-line wedding dress is fitted at the hips, gradually flaring out from the body’s natural waistline towards the hemline, giving the skirt silhouette the shape of the letter A. While it is not as dramatic as the Ball Gown style, it is a more relaxed and flowy shape, along with other benefits.

One of the benefits of the A-line silhouette is its versatility, as you can pair it with various necklines, several different types of wedding dress fabrics, and any train length; another benefit is that the bodice usually has more flexibility.

Another way A-lines wedding dresses are versatile is that they are perfect for any ceremony, from an elegant church wedding to a simple garden ceremony. The A-line wedding dress creates the illusion of height and curves and is flattering for many body types.

Features Of A Ball Gown Wedding Dress

Ball gowns are also called princess gowns because of their royal flare and usually have a fitted bodice combined with a fuller and more voluminous skirt. The skirt begins at the natural waist and is ideal for a bride who wants to feel like she is in a real-life fairytale wedding dress on her wedding day. You can also wear a wedding train of any length with this dress style.

The Ball Gown silhouette pairs perfectly with elaborate venues or traditional church weddings. Ball gowns accentuate the waist and hide the lower body area, flattering most body types.

Choosing Between The A-Line And The Ball Gown

These wedding dresses have beautiful silhouettes, which comes down to individual style preferences and what will be most comfortable.

One of the benefits of both wedding dress styles is that the skirts are voluminous. You can wear any shoe you want as they most likely will not be seen much, which also means you can choose a comfortable shoe, making it easier to dance to your heart’s content.

These two silhouettes also share a downside: when you have to go to the bathroom, you will most likely need help every time. Despite this, the A-Line and Ball Gown wedding dresses have been trendy silhouettes among brides over the past decades. If you want the beauty of one of these styles for your ceremony but more freedom during the reception, you may wonder if you should have two wedding dresses for your big day.

WHY we're the perfect match

WE ARE SOULMATES

Far far away, behind the word mountains, far from the countries Vokalia and Consonantia, there live the blind texts. Separated they live in Bookmarksgrove right at the coast of the Semantics, a large language ocean. A small river named Duden flows by their place and supplies it with the necessary regelialia. It is a paradisematic country, in which roasted parts of sentences fly into your mouth. Even the all-powerful Pointing has no control about the blind texts it is an almost unorthographic life One day however a small line of blind text by the name of Lorem Ipsum decided to leave for the far World of Grammar. The Big Oxmox advised her not to do so, because there were thousands of bad Commas, wild Question Marks and devious Semikoli, but the Little Blind Text didn’t listen. She packed her seven versalia, put her initial into the belt and made herself on the way.
